Platinum Jubilee Celebration Day
On Thursday 19th May 2022 we celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in school.
During the morning, the children participated in several activities in their classrooms.
- making a crown
- planting a sunflower seed
- decorating a biscuit
- learning a dance
- learning The National Anthem
We also received a letter from Buckingham Palace. The Queen had set us the challenge of keeping her Crown Jewels safe.
Each class also spent time in the hall. The activities were: building a lego castle, building a giant castle with cardboard boxes to play in, creating a piece of artwork of the Queen's head using coins and having fun in the photo booth. We also enjoyed a special treat where we could bring some chocolate to eat at breaktime instead of fruit!
We had a special 'street party' lunch on the lane outside school. The whole school sat together and enjoyed eating lunch with music playing from all the decades of the Queen's reign.
After lunch, we played on the field until the photographer arrived to take a whole class photo for us to commemorate the event. We let off confetti cannons.
When we returned from lunch, we found that the Crown Jewels had been stolen! We went on a hunt around the playground and the Orchard to find the jewels. We also discovered clues and worked out who was the thief!
In the afternoon, the whole school went into the hall for 'The Royal Variety Performance'. Each class performed their class dance from each decade of the Queen's reign. They were watched on by our monarchs on their thrones.
At the end of the performance, our school choir led two verses of The National Anthem. This was followed by Rule Britannia where everyone waved their flags.
To end the day, everyone enjoyed ice cream and the children received a Platinum Jubilee pin badge as a souvenir of the day.
In the week before our celebration, we produced a pom-pom wreath for the church to commemorate the Jubilee. Every child in school made a pom-pom.
We held our own Great Jubilee Bake Off competition. We received lots of entries from home and our monarchs for the day judged the competition. Prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
